Philippe Gaillard's family have lived in Plouharnel for many generations. His great great grandfather was Félix Gaillard, a pionner in archaeoastronomy, who wrote Prehistoric Astronomy in 1892. Philippe has inherited many photographs of megaliths taken in the 19th century and is coauthor of the acclaimed book and exhibition entitled Memory of Stones in Plouharnel.

Philippe's talk in 2009 will be about the difficulties of being an artchaeoastronomer in Brittany 120 years ago. It is accompanied by the film Prehistoric Astronomy by Howard Crowhurst, which retraces the life and theories of Felix Gaillard.
